Two weekends ago, our studio had the chance to shoot three days of Indian wedding festivities, starting with the Mehendi (also known as Mendhi, Mehandi, etc.) Party at the bride’s home in Anaheim, CA. In a series of blog posts, I will talk about and showcase images from each day, starting with Friday night. This night was covered by Justin and one of our associate photographers, Laura Im. Both did a wonderful job covering the event, capturing the smiles and joy of the moment with creativity and artistry.
Before we get into the images, some of our readers might be wondering what a Mehendi Party is. The following description is based on some internet research combined with our experience with shooting Indian Weddings. The Mehendi is an important pre-wedding ritual, celebrated mainly by the bride’s family. Like many facets of Indian culture, different regions celebrate in a different ways, but in general, the lively, fun-filled event gathers friends and relatives from near and far at bride’s home a few days before the marriage. A professional henna designer or a skilled relative applies Mehendi to the hands and feet of the bride, her family, and the guests at the party. The Mehendi party is also a time of socializing, dancing, and eating. Congrats Ravi and Nancy! We had a wonderful time at your parties!
