Hawthorne Wedding Photography – Ayres Hotel – Claire & James – Preparation

August 25th, 2009

A couple weekends ago, we had a chance to hang out with our friends Claire and James. As two of the partners in our studio are Taiwanese, we always feel right at home doing Taiwanese weddings, as the familiar sounds of the language remind us of our trips back to visit our family. Anyways, the wonderful couple chose the Ayres Hotel for the reception and the Wayfarers Chapel for their Ceremony. We hope you enjoy the images; and thanks for letting us be a part of your great day!

Dana I don't like the feeling of being inferior, but that is all I feel when I look at your work. Punks. Amazing.

Rancho Palos Verdes Wedding Photography – Wayfarers Chapel – James & Claire – Ceremony

August 25th, 2009

The ceremony took place at one of the most beautiful wedding locations in the world, the Wayfarers Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes. The glass chapel is perched on top of a grassy hill overlooking the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The architectural masterpiece was surrounded by tall trees, through which streaks of sunlight streamed into the peaceful chapel.

The rules at the chapel were quite strict, as photographers and videographers were not allowed past the last row of benches. Nevertheless, we explored our creativity, using unique angles and perspectives.

Hawthorne Wedding Photography – Ayres Hotel – Claire & James – Reception

August 25th, 2009

The reception was a great time for everyone at the Ayres Hotel in Hawthorne, CA.

This close up shot shows the exquisite detail of the cake.

The lighting for the first dance was beautiful, as the DJs/MCs/Lighting Crew provided a perfect spotlight for flares.

haha… I know there’s nothing creative about this shot, but for some reason, I love this shot. Maybe it’s because it reminds me of my childhood.

Laughs were plentiful that night in Hawthorne at the Ayres Hotel reception.

Laguna Beach Bar Mitvah Photography – Seven Degrees

August 19th, 2009

This past weekend we headed out to Laguna Beach to work with our beloved wedding coordinator Adina, the owner of Fleur de Lis Events. We were hired this week to cover some of the venue and detail shots of their setup for a bar mitzvah at Seven Degrees, a dope venue out in Laguna Beach.

A little background on the location, Seven Degrees was actually named so because the entire building and architectural lines are built on 7 degree angles. It was really quite a cool venue, and Adina did an amazing job as usual setting the place up.

Here are just a few of our shots below.

So going along with the theme of everything being designed on a 7 degree slope, I thought I would take this picture on a 7 degree tilt. How wonderfully seven degreesish.

This is the main room inside Seven Degrees in Laguna Beach. You can see the lighting is quite amazing, and Adina’s design and setup rocked!

I love shadows and highlights and when I saw this backlit tree, I got the best of both worlds!

Bon-Bons and bokeh, could you ask for more? I vote nay!

Here is a shot of the upstairs area at Seven Degrees Laguna Beach. The scenery was quite beautiful with the mountain right in the background.

If there were such a thing as a candid shot of the alcohol, I think this would be it. Look how we just peeked through the foreground to see our subject hiding in the back there.

Lauren Sum Looks like an edgy place to have a wedding. Colors! I also like the purple theme of the wedding. Such cool photos.

Laguna Beach Wedding Venue Photography – A Bart Prince Design

August 19th, 2009

Hey guys,

For those of you that may not know, while we focus on weddings we also do commercial, venue and architectural work when it comes our way. A little more than a week ago, our good friend Adina, of Fleur de Lis Events hired us to shoot the venue shots for a wedding in Laguna Beach which she coordinated. Adina’s driving instructions ended with “it’s the house that looks like a big whale.” While I thought, how could that be, when I arrived I found her description to be quite accurate!

Saying that the architecture of the house was amazing and unique would be an clear understatement. I asked Adina about the design so she introduced me to the owner, a kind gentlemen named Bart Prince who told me that his friend and mentor was Frank Lloyd Wright! Saying that Mr. Prince’s design is absolutely stunning would be a clear understatement. To see more of Bart Prince’s work, visit his website at http://www.bartprince.com/.

Anyway, Adina did an awesome job with the design and coordination of the event and the house itself was amazing. Here are a few pictures of our shoot for you guys to enjoy.

I started in the backyard where the wedding ceremony site was. I don’t know about you guys, but that backyard view of Laguna Beach sure beats the one of our pool in our place.

Adina went with a classic retro theme which looked gorgeous.

We were asked to get some shots of the umbrellas and fans, so why not arrange them and make a nice shot out of it!

Ok, so here is where we can show you a bit of the amazing architecture. This is the interior courtyard of the Bart Prince home.

This shot shows the cool wood layering that covers the entire outside of the house.

I know, I know, but I want you guys to see it from all angles! Check out that staircase!

Nice final detail shot to finish it off.

jkb Bart Prince is an architect in Albuquerque, New Mexico and designed the house for a client. He does not own the house and would have been 12 yrs old when Frank Lloyd Wright died. Just a clarification. Thanks
jkb A Bart Prince design. Please go to www.bartprince.com to see more of his work.
Gieo Pensoneault beautiful location, architecture and photography. Nice work. G
Trudy Beautiful photographs. You really captured the essence of his architectural style. Keep up the amazing work.
