A week ago I hung out with Claire and Nate at the Balboa Fun Zone in Newport Beach. We took full advantage of the playful environment of the Balboa Fun Zone, snapping a few shots on the Ferris Wheel, the Carousel, and over in the arcade. The textures and colors, unique colors, and outgoing couple made my job as a photographer, as I only needed to set up each shot and let the environment and their personalities take over and create the shot. Having rained that morning, the clouds created a beautiful cover for many images and a unique backdrop for other photographs.
Nate looks exactly like my friend Phil from back and high school, so after slipping up a few times, I gave up and Nate is not willing to go by Phil. I had a great time with these two; and I can’t wait to shoot their wedding in the Fall of this year.

My first time shooting a couple on a carousel at the Balboa Fun Zone was quite challenging. It seemed like every other shot had a bar in front of one of their faces, and as I almost always prefer low apertures, my focus had to be right on. I cam away with a few great expressions, as Claire and Nate spent a few minutes getting dizzy.

I wanted to draw focus to Claire’s beautiful eyes in this image by using a thin crop. We found a great shaded spot for portraits in the buildings right next to the Balboa Fun Zone in Newport Beach.

I love finding natural frames for my shots, like this boat rental structure created for this engagement picture at the Balboa Fun Zone in Newport Beach.

The little shops on the side of Balboa Fun Zone in Newport Beach create a lot of fun shots with the right couple.

The nice textures of the building around Balboa Fun Zone create great shade, and Claire and Nate really knew how to make each other laugh.

Handsome as always, here’s Nate adorning his summer gardening hat.

We went ended at the beach next to the Balboa Fun Zone in Newport Beach hoping to get a few sunset shots, but as you can see in the picture, the clouds were rolling in. We were able to fire off a few jumping shots before mother nature decided that we were done for the day.

I originally wanted to go on the Carousel at Balboa Fun Zone with them, but the operator said that I would have to be on the opposite side of them to balance it out. Instead, I was stuck on the ground, but this gave me a unique perspective with a dramatic sky as my backdrop.
