Asia Garden Mall Westminster Engagement Session | Huy and Natalie

June 21st, 2010

A couple weeks ago, we had the opportunity to shoot one of our cute new couples, Huy and Natalie. Huy and Natalie wanted to start off the shoot at the Asian Garden Mall to shoot a few shots that showed off their Vietnamese heritage. So, we jumped right in and with the help of Jordan, one of our new assistants, we shot our first shot in front of the mall which you see below.

You wouldn’t believe how long it took to wait for all the people in the background to clear the scene =)

Huy and Natalie took us inside and we found a nice little lounge area. Fearing that we would be quickly kicked out of the mall, we setup real quick and grabbed the shot. Surprisingly, even though security was just right in front of us as you can see in the pic below, they didn’t mind us shooting in the mall.  Woot!

Mile Square Park Fountain Valley Engagement Photography | Huy and Natalie

June 21st, 2010

After grabbing a few shots at the mall, we scurried our way over to Mile Square Park. A brilliant little park Natalie suggested over in Fountain Valley that is just perfect for all sorts of shoots! Great find Natalie!

The lighting and backgrounds were spectacular, and you couldn’t ask for a happier looking couple!

As usual, we love creative lighting. So, we setup a little flash action to get our classic look. While this may look like an evening shot, it may surprise you that it was well before sunset and quite bright outside =).

The clouds really cooperated with us throughout the shoot by providing us with some great dramatic skies.

Huntington Beach Engagement Photography | Huy and Natalie

June 21st, 2010

I love it when we can finish our shoots a little bit later in the evening so we can do a bit of creative lighting. So, we finished the engagement session with some night beach shots under the Huntington Beach Pier.

Natalie and Huy were quite the good sports standing in the standing water under the pier as I was setting up lighting and getting these shots. Love it when couples are down to get a little wet  ;)

The gorgeous blue skies and tungsten lights of the pier reflecting off the ocean made for such a great backdrop.

Andy and Trisha | San Juan Capistrano Engagement Photography

June 11th, 2010

A couple weeks ago, before getting my new car I was heading to an engagement shoot. As usual, I didn’t really want to put my car on display being that it really isn’t display worthy (which is an understatement). So I arrived early to the shoot, and parked in a nice spot. I hopped out of the car to quickly grab my gear (which was worth several times more than my car) desiring to quickly distance myself from my old Honda and low and behold Andy and Trisha just happened to be the cute couple that I parked right next to, oh yeah, and they happened to be in a sweet 2008 Honda S2000.

As most of you know, I love my old Honda, and therefore I ignored every plea from my wife and partners to buy a new car. It wasn’t until that moment when I parked next to Andy and Trisha when I said to myself, “ok, it’s time.” It was awesome hanging around Old Town San Juan Capistrano. It wasn’t long before Andy and Trisha were acting like pros in front of the camera. I had them climbing rocks, hiking through fields, swinging on swings, you name it they were doing it. But, they were troopers, and I think they will be pleased at the final result.

Andy and Trisha, you guys were a blast to hang out with and going out to dinner with you guys afterwards was a treat. Congratulations, enjoy the pictures and let us know what you think =).

Like all good men, we put our girls on pedestals. Girls, be nice, don’t give us the hand.

The sun backlit fields of San Juan Capistrano were gorgeous and made the perfect background for our engagement shoot

Ahh yes… The LJP funny face… Going with “classic monkey” I see. Good choice, well done.

HDR Photography + Bamboo Fields = Holy cow that’s cool!

Sun not doing what I want? No problem, I got my portable sun that goes anywhere I want! =)

I think this backlit mood shot with the deep blue skies and the warm yellow tones was my favorite shot of the night.

While Trisha is Andy’s first love, he does have a second, and she would have had some serious objections to being left out of the shoot. So, we gave Andy’s sweet S2000 her turn to get in on a little photo action.

Location: San Juan Capistrano Park, and Bamboo Field, and Old Town

Langham Huntington Pasadena Wedding | Preparation | Rad and Theresa

June 11th, 2010

True emotions, amazing details, deep love, profound beauty, extraordinary creativity, etc. These are all experiences and feelings that we are given the opportunity to capture with each and every wedding we shoot. However, for us photographers, there is nothing better than when all of these things come together perfectly as it did with our friends Rad and Theresa’s wedding.

From the amazing Victorian architecture and Old English style of the Langham Hotel in Pasadena to the beautiful stained glass windows of St Philip’s Church, to our beautiful bride and groom, it seemed like everywhere we turned there was something gorgeous to be captured on film.

However, such a wonderfully perfect day doesn’t come together without the hard work and effort of many individuals. We want to personally thank Angela Liu (a good friend of Theresa’s) for working so hard in coordinating the entire wedding. Angela, along with her day-of-coordinator Debbie of Aquafuzion did an amazing job of planning and arranging all of the details as well as keeping the entire day organized and on schedule. While our bride and bridesmaids were all straight up gorgeous from the get go, our good friend and professional makeup artist Theresa Huang and her team did the impossible by making the girls look even more stunning. Most importantly, we want to thank Theresa, Rad and their handsome son Nathan. You guys have been such a blast to work with, and it has been our honor to not only work with you, but to get to be your friends. We wish you guys all of the best. Please enjoy the pictures and let us know what you think!

To anyone that is interested, all of the venue and vendor contact information is included in the last post of this series.

.

The next few shots were taken by our amazing second shooter, Carla Gates. Thank you so much for you help on this wedding.

Theresa’s eyes and lashes seemed to just suck you right in.

The boys sat around prepping red packets (hongbao’s) for the entrance games when Rad was trying to make his way into the room to see his beautiful bride-to-be.

I got the girls to get a little crazy for me by jumping on the bed. I know they wanted to, they just needed a little encouragement.
