As some of you know, we love teaching and sharing our knowledge. Whether it be sharing tips and tutorials on the website we created called SLR Lounge or giving workshops on various photography topics, teaching has become one of our passions along side photography.

The company Smugmug organizes monthly meetups for photographers to discuss various topics. Each meeting features a guest speaker who covers a specific, requested topic of interest for the photography community in the Los Angeles Area. This month, we were invited to speak, and we’d love it if you would join us!!!

Pye Speaking Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese and Hakkanese

December 5th, 2011

In case any of you had any doubt that Pye actually speaks perfect Cantonese and Mandarin, here’s a quick video to prove it.  We created this video for a company called UNDFIND, a company that makes sleek designer photography and laptop bags.  Make sure to check them out here (or scope their blog here).   We created this video to hit the Chinese-speaking markets as well as showcase Pye’s language abilities.  Anyways, check it out!  If nothing else, it’s pretty dang hilarious.

Our Wedding Photography Equipment

May 25th, 2011

For those of you who don’t know, we run a little photography education magazine over on SLR Lounge. On there, we decided to make a quick video about what we take to our weddings. We attempted to make it a little bit funny (attempted being the keyword). Anyway, this was recorded in our new studio in Costa Mesa/Santa Ana; and we hope that you stop by if you’re ever in the area. For a complete listing of our equipment, you can check our list on our main website. Enjoy! :)

iPhone Fashion Photography Shoot – If we can do this with a camera phone, just imagine…

May 11th, 2011

For those that may not know, the partners of Lin and Jirsa Photography also started and run a photographic community called SLR Lounge where we teach and educate photographers from all around the world. With over 35,000 photographers visiting the site each month, we get to hear a lot of comments and feedback regarding the process of learning photography.

One of the overriding things that we seem to hear, not only on SLR Lounge, but also just during our actual shoots are comments that give the general consensus that “great photos can only come from great cameras.”

Well, we the partners of Lin and Jirsa Photography took that as a challenge and decided to do an entire photo shoot with just an iPhone Camera, and a couple $30 reflectors. So, my question to you all is:

If we can do this with just a camera phone, just imagine what we can do with a full professional set of equipment.

Enjoy the video guys, and let us know what you think! Below the video are some of the actual post produced shots from the shoot. To see all of the shots from the shoot, processed and unprocessed, visit the SLR Lounge Facebook Page

Here are some of the processed shots from the shoot, enjoy!

Bride’s Tip | Provide a List of Your VIP’s

May 1st, 2011

The following is an entry with some tips for our brides (and grooms of course). For more tips, check out “Tips for Your Wedding Day” on our main site. These blog entries are in addition to the tips you’ll find on our website that we update every once in a while. To see all of them, please click here.

A list of “VIP’s” helps us in a couple of ways:

1) Establishes Familiarity and Rapport – First off, it helps us gain familiarity with the names and faces of the people we’ll be interacting with during the day. This not only helps us communicate well during the day; but it also helps establish a good rapport with your important family and friends.

2) Guides Our Focus – Secondly, it helps us make sure that we’re focusing on the right people during the wedding day. This is especially important when you have a larger wedding. Family and friends travel from all over the world to be at your wedding; and it’s important that we get some good images of them on your big day. As the camera naturally gravitates toward the bride and groom, the wedding party, the immediate family, the children at the wedding, and the (louder) guests smiling and laughing, it can take a conscious effort to focus on that quite, yet still very important, relative or guest who flew half way around the world to be there.

If you already have pictures and names of these guests somewhere online (Facebook, your wedding website, Flickr, Picasa etc.) just let us know how to access them and give us some guidance as to who’s who. If not, please compile their images and their names in a word document or email and send that over.
